Social Bookmarking

If you know what I’m talking about, go to my last newsletter and Digg it, Stumble Upon it and add it to Del.icio.us. You’ll find links for all three of these social bookmarks at the bottom of the page.

If you have never heard of Social Bookmarking, you’re in for a treat! Basically it’s a way to share your favorites with everyone. As one of the many new Web 2.0 type applications, it is a great way to come across new content on the web and to help websites like mine get found by more people.

Stumble Upon is my favorite. Once you sign-up and add Stumble to your toolbar (Firefox and Windows Explorer only) and select a few categories of things you’re interested in, you can hit “Stumble Upon” and one random website after another will be shown to you.

You can give each website a thumbs up or a thumbs down and the program will learn what kind of stuff you like. I selected arts, photography and travel and got one after another of really cool sites that I would never have discovered on my own.

Once you’re a member of Stumble Upon, you can recommend sites that others might be interested (like this one, hint, hint). That’s why I put a Stumble Upon link at the bottom of this week’s newsletter, I’ll keep doing that from now on.

Digg is also very cool. If you like a website, you click the Digg button. The cool thing about Digg is that you can become a fan of other good reviewers and let them recommend cool content for you. Once you sign up, you can Digg my newsletter every week if you like it and others will find it.

Finally, Del.icio.us (or simply Delicious) is a yahoo application which is very similar. You sign-up, add del.icio.us to your toolbar and then you can easily add sites you like to it. It’s works like a regular bookmark in your browser but it’s public so others can see what cool stuff you recommend.

Right now I’ve got one Digg, one Stumble and one Delicious rating for this week’s newsletter. You’ll laugh when you read my Digg review since I wrote about myself, thinking it was anonymous. I said I’m even thinking of buying a print. Once it got published I saw my mistake: ToddSmith recommends toddsmithphotography.com and wants to buy one of his own prints! LOL

If you’re still reading, go to this week’s newsletter and Digg it, Stumble Upon it and add it to Del.icio.us.

Thanks,
Todd
