Earth and Sky

 |
I love being out at dawn and dusk, though it's not always easy, or even possible it seems, for me to get out of bed.
|
There is a sense of balance
at that time of day.
Heat and cold, light and dark seem to partake of one another
in equal measure.
I love to breathe in the freshness of the air, and see the subtle play of color as the day begins. |

I was rewarded twice this week with rainbows while I was out. The one above, in the early morning, and the second at noon.
The rainbow at noon was very flat--I had never seen one like that before. |
In chasing the first rainbow, and looking eagerly to find its image reflected in a nearby pond, I discovered that the pond's edge was a mass of dry, cracked mud.
It was fun to walk out on the cracked mud, taking pictures of my shadow and coming out to the edge of the pond. |

But a step too close to the edge quickly brought me up to my shins in rich, stinky mud! I had to laugh out loud. It was so unexpected that the dry mud would give way to mush. And I had to fish out my flip-flops from the deep, oozing goop.
With the most putrid mud on both of my feet and one hand, I managed to pack up my camera, and drive home, to spend five minutes washing under the garden hose. |
