The Wenatchi River flows over snow and ice from the Cascades.

Blaine picked me up at the airport in Seattle last week. We immediately headed East to cross the Cascades before the next snowstorm.

We did make it without trouble, and spent the night on the Eastern slopes at the charming "Bavarian" village of Leavenworth.

The next morning, we set out to explore the six inches of new-fallen snow through which we managed to avoid driving...

...and which happened to be sitting on top of another good two to three feet of old snow.

A weathervane measures several feet of snow.

I didn't grow up with much snow, so this was a real treat.

At times, I was up to my thighs, watching my tripod slide down till only the camera was visible above the snow.

Even the rooster on the weathervane, above, seemed to be at the limit of its endurance.

I never did quite find the house below it. :)

The main street of Leavenworth, WA, glows in the winter twilight.

I'm just glad to be a visitor, not required to shovel the roof of a barn, or a quarter mile of drive.

The snow and the Bavarian look of Leavenworth made me wonder, where the heck I was, after five weeks in NYC.

Even the McDonald's had a fancy sign and storefront, fitting the theme of the place.

Have a great week!
Todd
