Sometimes a view from above is the very flattering to the eyes.

My favorite thing about photographing people is that they smile back when you look at them...

Or they knock your lights out!

Photographing people is not just about lighting and composition; it is a dynamic conversation...

...and, as it turns out, a way of having fun with someone.

My step-brother Tim's kids were especially fun to work with.

They happily showed me around all the nooks and crannies of their house.

And told me tidbits of their lives.

A boy in his closet.
The flowers and surroundings of home are the perfect background.

I believe that people look their best when they're in familiar territory.

That's why I love doing portraits at a client's home.

Not only is everyone more relaxed, but everything in the background actually means something to them.

The other thing that makes a photo session work is collaboration.

I get my best ideas from my clients. :)

One suggestion leads to another and another, back and forth, and soon we're on a roll of creative ideas.

Stealing a pie brought out this boy's personality and fun side.

Personality comes to the surface with participation.

The more excited and creative my client gets, the more the picture can reveal the true person behind appearances.

Thanks, Tim and Kathleen, for sharing these photos with everyone.

Have a great week!
Todd
