The orchard grass glows in the early morning light under the apple trees.

This morning I fell in love with the beautiful, dappled light on the tall grass in the orchard.

I went there to photograph the apple blossoms and found the orchard grass to be as charming as the flowers.

The temperature was probably in the high fifties, and I was comfortable in a t-shirt even when a breeze came up.

To be outside at this time is one of my favorite things in life.

Apple blossoms in black and white
Orchard grass goes to seed under the apple trees.

The early light, with its contrasting shadows, lent itself beautifully to black and white.

Everything glowed in the rich light, and the whole orchard felt as cozy as my living room.

I could imagine a field mouse running through the tall grass and feeling lucky that it lived there.

Above me, below me, and all around me: everywhere my eyes found something new at which to wonder.

The first seeds of spring for the orchard grass
Looking up, I see a tangle of branches in the apple orchard.

If you want an overdose of bliss, come out to the orchard at dawn with me—it's worth getting out of bed.
