M8, Lagoon Nebula, Messier 8, Messier Object 8, NGC 6523

Looking up, I see no end to space.

Galaxies and nebulae float so far away that my eyes and mind can barely see and comprehend the distance.

In some ways, I feel small by comparison.

It all depends on my perspective.

From an objective, scientific point of view, I'm but a speck compared to any celestial body.

M13, Great globular cluster in Hercules, Hercules Globular Cluster, Messier 13, Messier Object 13, NGC 6205
M16, Eagle Nebula, Messier 16, Messier Object 16, NGC 6611, IC 4703

But from my own subjective point of view, a galaxy is but a speck to me.

At one edge of my awareness is an ancient source of light now reaching me.

And at the other extreme is the part inside of me that sees.

Between them is a continuum of space, seen only now that I have turned my vision to the sky.

What's exhilarating to me is not just the stars themselves, but the enormous sense of space which they bring to my awareness.

A big thank you to Jack Newton, a world famous amateur astronomer who spends six months each year in Osoyoos, BC, near me. All photos were taken with his state of the art telescope and camera, and amazing guidance.
