A field of red sumac

Around here, there's a bit of a nip in the air. No hard frost yet, but we're flirting dangerously with it.

The sumac is making a great show of red, each leaf taking its own time to make the transition.

Even the poison ivy is beautiful now.

The same plant I once feared is now bringing me joy—go figure.

In autumn, everything shows its hidden beauty.

Poison ivy is beautiful in the Fall.
Locust leaves show off a brilliant yellow in the autumn

Green gives way to yellow. Attachment gives way to flight.

Locust leaves and milkweed seeds fill the air as I walk.

What a wonder to see what nature has accomplished once again.

Somehow, a strong, curving seed pod, rough on the outside but like rubber within, a wiry stem, and feather-light seeds are all fashioned from nothing but sunlight, water and earth...

...with no effort from me.

A milkweed seed pod awaits the wind to dispurse.
An old rose at the end of the year still has a charm.

Even old roses still hold their charm at the end of the year.

While young buds, hopelessly optimistic, give one last expression to a season-long drive to create.
