a faded rose in the snow

The sun peeked out for a bit between snowstorms, giving me a few minutes to explore.

The short time, it turns out, was perfect because I never made it out of the yard.

As I walked to the car, snow on hydrangeas and roses and sunflower stalks caught my eye.

The colors had faded, leaving only the essence of form behind.

Birds had long since stripped the last seeds from these once brilliant flowers; function completed, yet beauty lived on.

Meanwhile in the backyard, Buddha in his snow shawl and cute little cap was contemplating the depth of the the snowfall and the stillness which it had brought on.

Unsightly mounds of earth on the side of the house had somehow become snow dunes of elegant form.

And as I turned to look where I'd come from, a trail of my footprints pointed to me.

I've got a favor to ask you. Last year one of the reasons I didn't print my calendars was that there was not enough demand for the large size.

I'm taking a new poll now on my blog.

Could you help me choose the best size for the 2010 calendars?

I would love to get 100 votes. So far, 27 people have voted. Pass it on...
