walking the beach in Redondo Beach, CA

Is there such a thing as climate shock? If so, I've got it.

Last week I stumbled through foot deep snow and now I stroll the beaches of Los Angeles with bare feet.

I keep pinching myself. Is this real?

Can it really be 80 degrees in January?

My window hasn't been shut all week.

Of course everyone walks around here like it's normal.

Even the birds look at me kind of funny, as if to say, "What are you thinking? We've been here for months."

Everywhere palm trees prove that I'm no longer in a place where seasons change.

No wonder the whole culture here is so relaxed—if all else fails you can always be a beach bum.

Even the architecture shows an openness not seen in snowy climates, and window boxes filled with flowers are the norm.

So someone tell me if I'm dreaming... but let me sleep a little longer.

I may soon wake to scrape my windshield once again.

But in the meantime let me revel in my temporary paradise.
