ornamental cherry trees

Did you know that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is open free of charge on Tuesdays?

From Manhattan, the subway brought me right to the gate of this delightful place.

The ornamental cherries were at their peak last week, and everyone was there to see them.

But the nooks and crannies often overlooked were also worth exploring.

Daffodills

Bluebells and daffodils fluttered in the morning breeze as sunlight filtered through the trees.

An ocean of tulips of every color filled a bed that was impossible to pass by quickly.

With so many things competing for attention in our world today, I'm amazed that nature still has such a draw. But then, when you think about it, nothing really can compare.

So many shapes, and colors—and no electronic buzz.

In just a few minutes a garden like this can bring you back to peace after many hours of computer work.

Who wouldn't want to sit and soak up all the simple goodness of the dogwood?

Or the flowering cherry?
