a house clings to thei hillside covered with balsamroot

The hills of central Washington and British Columbia are covered with blooming balsamroot at this time of year.

As far as the eye can see, the smiling faces of this wild sunflower, mixed with blue lupines, announce the arrival of spring at last.

Exploring a canyon with my camera, I photographed this house clinging to a hillside on a sea of yellow.

And thinking it would be wise to get a property release, in case I wanted to sell the image later, I climbed the winding drive.

The views from above were matched only by the kindness with which I was received by the young couple living there.

They invited me to have dinner with them, to stay as a their guest overnight, and to hike up through the hills the next morning on private land.

In fact, most of the photos shown here come from the three-hour hike I made early in the morning through those pristine hills.

When I was at the very top, I found myself spontaneously spinning around as I walked, looking in all directions, and twirling my arms like the Sound of Music.

The best thing, my new friends told me of living here, is that this huge garden of flowers is 100% maintenance free!

I certainly felt lucky that I decided to stop by.
