a spray of tiny blue flowers

On my way around the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, I visited a nursery that seemed to be doing everything right.

The rhododendrons, which are the specialty of the Whitney Gardens and Nursery, are what pulled me from the road...

...and led me through a beautiful, mature garden full of tiny blue flowers and tulips and every kind of rhododendron and azalea
imaginable.

I also noticed a Free Wi-Fi sign from the highway, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the garden had a special, covered area full of hanging plants for computer users and picnickers alike.

For wanderers like me, that was heaven. I actually spent the whole day there, split between photographing the flowers and catching up on computer work in the fresh air.

There was even free popcorn for those who wanted it.

What I liked about this nursery is that it did everything it could to make me feel at home and welcome.

In terms of one of my favorite blogs, it gave maximum customer experience.

There were no fast salesmen; I never felt pressured to buy one of the many kinds of plants they had for sale.

Yet that open, easy, welcoming attitude made me want to do business with them.

It doesn't take much to make a customer feel welcome: a few free items of value, a nice space to hang out and an attitude of giving.

They get 15,000 visitors a year.

Download 18 new wallpaper photos here (a $13.37 value). Available for free until May 26, 2009.

Have a great week,
Todd
