low clouds and rain in the pine covered hills

Do you ever look around when you're outside in the rain?

I'm usually way too busy keeping dry to notice how the rain runs down the bark of trees like this.

These branches probably glisten every week.

The Olympic Peninsula, Washington, had lots of rain when I was there.

A side of nature often overlooked became the center of attention.

It was as if I were eavesdropping on the ways of the woods when no one is around.

Trees dripped quietly to themselves.

Trillium flowers drooped under the weight of water.

When rain drops flatten the surface of a lake, the scintillating calmness is arresting.

In rain, nature is reduced to utter simplicity of form.

So next time you get rain, stop and take a look.

I was surprised at how much I had missed.
