Lupins grow along the rocky beach in southern Oregon.

The rock formations of the Oregon coast are especially dramatic along the southern section of the shore.

Hardly a mile of beach can be found without coastal islands, or at least a sprinkling of boulders on the sand.

These rocks give us solid reference points while our eyes explore the space around them.

They remain steadfast while the water ebbs and flows.

And they define the shapes we see cut-out from the brilliant sky.

Could space be seen at all without some solid points of reference?

Though space itself is invisible, the relationship of objects in that space can help us see it.

Objects like these rocks create a sense of depth which draws us in and captivates us.

Rocks along the shore create abstract shapes in the evening sky.

What fascinates us about this world is not so much the objects but their relationships.

For it is through these relationships that we catch a glimmer of that which our senses cannot see.
