An island painted white by cormorants

Almost everyone that I asked before beginning this journey said that Big Sur should be a destination on my trip.

I found it to be equally beautiful in the morning and the evening light.

Cool, blue water invited my fresh, morning eyes to explore islands painted brilliant white.

Later on, I relished the golden light of evening silhouetting everything before me.

A passageway carved by water through solid rock

Water carved this ancient place with patience and persistence.

It somehow chiseled passageways through solid rock, apparently for the fun of flowing through them.

As the sun set, I was drawn to the water's edge, my mind fascinated by the play of light on rock and water.

How could I resist a show of
artistry this grand?

Nature is the master artist, doing everything—needing nothing—except for me to stand and wonder.

Rock formation reflected in still water

As night fell, the coolness of the earth rose up to meet me and a stillness filled the air.

Nature is as much at home in restfulness, it seems, as it is in crashing waves against the shore.
