Wedding Photography

I have been photographing weddings since 2000.
I now live in rural Washington State and do not photograph as many weddings as I did a couple of years ago. However, I am still availalbe for wedding coverage anywhere in the world.
About Todd Smith...
A storyteller with a camera: Todd carefully documents your wedding with sensitivity, attention to detail, and style. Todd takes joy in creating photographs that will make future generations smile. He quietly looks for moments that tell something more than simply who was at your wedding, or where it took place. Todd’s desire is to capture the moments that tell us who you really are, and to record for everyone the true feelings you experienced on your wedding day.

A respectful guest: Todd does not interrupt you or your guests to “get the shot.” You will never hear him say, “Excuse me, could I take your picture?” He believes that people look their best when they are unaware of the camera. For this reason, Todd prefers to quietly shoot from the shadows. He dresses according to the occasion, and is happy to blend in with the crowd, moving about like a guest with a camera. Todd does not make a show in any way. Rather, he feels it is his job to be the silent witness of your festivities—to report the news, not make the news.

A fast traditionalist: Todd documents the important family groupings with dignity, style and speed. Todd’s main focus on your wedding day is to explore and document naturally occurring moments, yet he also enjoys creating heirloom photographs of the important groups to remember. Todd generally limits his posed photographs to these groupings: the couple, the wedding party, the parents, the bride’s family, and the groom’s family. He has found that any more than these “big five” becomes tedious for all involved, and prevents you from enjoying your cocktail hour. Todd usually accomplishes these shots within twenty minutes or a half-hour.

A flexible personality: Todd is happy to be as accommodating as he possibly can be, throughout your experience working with him. He is happy to fly to your city and meet you in your home, and to travel for your pre-wedding day photo sessions to a location of your choosing. Todd is also available for international assignments. Todd believes in giving his very best to every client. He welcomes your suggestions, and is open to your special needs.

An eye for quality: Todd seeks out the highest quality albums, cards, books and mats for use by his clients. He provides a finished product that is beautiful in its own right, and he prints his photos to the highest standards of digital photography. For wedding photography, Todd believes in using the very best in every detail of his work, from his camera to the album.

A quick turnaround: Todd’s attention to service includes a very quick turnaround for your wedding photos. He has your website up and running by the time you return from your honeymoon. Your CDs with your high-res digital images (“the negatives”), and your hand-made thank-you cards (using photos from your wedding) will be on your doorstep when you return from your honeymoon. Your beautiful proof albums are usually ready within a week of your return. And most clients have their completed wedding album, and their matted 8x10 prints within ten to twelve weeks of their wedding day.

A fair and open communicator: Todd offers his services at very reasonable prices, in five packages that are designed to be turn-key. Todd understands the importance of budgeting for a wedding, and feels the key to successful budgeting is to know up-front the exact cost of the services you desire. There are no hidden costs in any of Todd’s packages, and ninety-five percent of Todd’s clients never need to spend an extra penny after the wedding. Also, Todd does not believe in holding the negatives hostage, but gives you “the negatives” as high-resolution digital files on CD. Todd does not wish to be a salesman at every step of his relationship with you, but wants to enjoy the experience of working with you. If you decide to work with Todd, he gives you his all.

A quiet in the storm: Todd is an experienced yoga and meditation teacher, and has been practicing this art since he was six years old. He brings a quiet inner peace to the whirlwind of your wedding, and will be a point of stability you can rely on throughout your wedding experience. Todd also offers courses in yoga and meditation for those who want an extra dose of calmness at this exciting (and sometimes stressful) time.
Some Comments...
Todd did an amazing job at our wedding! The pictures he took came out beautifully, and he really captured the emotions we were all feeling. He did a great job of chronicling the entire story of our elaborate Indian wedding, which was filled with many Indian customs and lasted 3 days. He is such a pleasant person, and he blended in perfectly. We are so happy with the results, and we can't wait for our album! ... Roopa and Vivek Rao, McLean, VA, September 5, 2004.

Yes, Todd Smith was an incredible photographer... And his skills using a digital camera are fantastic. We have black and white pictures which look like they are timeless, as though our wedding took place in the 20's or 40's. Theresa Ferguson, New York, NY, November 27, 2004.

I feel so lucky to have learned about Todd Smith and his style of photography. He beautifully captured our whole day without us really even realizing he was there; except during our few posed pictures. I know Todd was the best decision we made - besides getting married! Heather Lozito, Richmond, VA, Jan 1, 2005.
In addition to his professionalism, Todd's happy attitude and creativity made the two events he shot for us smooth and stress-free. His preplanning gave us the efficiency to get to the reception in a reasonable amount of time. He shot such a variety of images to ensure that we had a multitude of different perspectives to choose from for the album he's designing with us. Randy Seibert, Richmond, VA December 18, 2004.

Todd is wonderful. We had so much fun working with him. He is very easy to work with. He goes out of his way to make sure you are happy. Our pictures came out great. Just what we wanted. We would definitely recommend him. Veronica Micco, Richmond, VA, September 24, 2004.

These pictures are absolutely stunning. I almost don't have words to express how pleased we are we these pictures. I simply love them. In fact, everyone who has had a chance to see them loves them. You did an amazing job of capturing all of the special moments. Thank you so much! Michelle Parr, Richmond, VA, October 23, 2004.

Just a note to tell you how wonderful the pics are that you took of the wedding day. I seem to have missed most of the day - just seeing the pics brings back the entire day in all of its beauty. Thank you again for all your artistic and magical photos. Can't wait to view them all again... Linda Pisko, Mother of the Groom, Abington, PA, May 15, 2004.

Wow! I just looked at the slide show. All I can say is you did an amazing job. I can't thank you enough. The pictures are so beautiful. You really captured the sights and feelings of the whole event. It was so wonderful to relive it. Kristin Schraa, M.D., Richmond, VA, February 14, 2004.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for my family and me and my new husband this year. It has been a pleasure working with you and I hope we keep in touch. Maybe you’ll be taking our kid’s pictures one day! You’ve been so helpful and kind with everything that you have done, it’s just a breath of fresh air to know that people like you still exist. Jocelyn Pullen, Richmond, VA, June 21, 2003.

The pictures are FABULOUS—I love every single one!!!! They are just absolutely wonderful and we couldn't be happier! We didn't expect to see them for another week because we knew how busy you were, so thank you so so so much!!! My personal favorite is the duck dunking his head! Hilarious!! I'm so happy you included that one, I totally busted out laughing!! the pictures are truly awesome and I feel like they capture a lot of what Josh and I are -- silliness and laughter, some seriousness and a lot of cuddlyness!! Amazing! I can't wait to send the website out to everyone we know!!! Mary Beth Rowell, Engagement Session, Washington, DC, September 11, 2004.

Thank you for the beautiful photos—I spend an inordinate amount of time at your website. Also, thank you not only for being a first rate photographer, but also for your lovely demeanor and unobtrusive ability to capture those special moments.
